The pair had aSaturday Night LiveWeekend Update reunion on stage at the 2023Emmy Awardson Monday. Fey, 53, and Poehler, 52, appeared behind the iconic Weekend Update news desk to offer jokes about each of Monday’s nominees for outstanding live variety special.
“We’ve reached the stage in life where we’ll only present awards sitting down,” Fey joked. The pair went on to roast each nominee, starting with the most recentAcademy Awardsceremony in March 2023.
“The only show that’s longer than when they air Titanic with commercials on TBS, the Oscars,” Fey chirped. The pair also made jokes about Chris Rock’s 2023 standup specialSelective Outrage— “Chris could be here tonight but if he wins we’ll accept on his behalf because we miss getting Emmys,” — and Super Bowl LVII’s Rihanna halftime show, which Fey called “the concert so good it got us all pregnant.”
Poehler then poked fun at the 2023 Tony Awards for “celebrating thebest in musicals that were based on movies which will probably be movies again,” (which Fey quickly pointed out is totally fine, as she promotes the musical movie version ofMean Girls) and made an EGOT reference while introducingElton John’s nominee, hisFarewell From Dodger Stadiumconcert, which ultimately won the award and vaulted the music industry legend toEGOT status.

The stars — who are currentlyon the roadfor their “Tina Fey & Amy Poehler: Restless Leg Tour” —co-anchoredSaturday Night Live’s popular Weekend Update segment from 2004 to 2006.
In 2021, Poehler, 52, opened up abouther decades-long friendship with FeyonSunday TODAYafter the pals virtually co-hostedthe Golden Globes together that year.
“I thinkit’s rare and wonderfulto meet somebody who’s your friend who also works the same way that you do. Because we kind of trained at the same places and work the same way it’s so easy,” Poehler, who leftSNLin 2008, said of Fey, 53.
She continued, “We share a very similar vocabulary — especially when you’re about to go do theGolden Globesor about to do live television for the first time or you’re trying something new it feels really good to have somebody who knows your timing [and] your rhythm.”

The pair also reflected on how theymaintained their long-lasting friendshipin a 2015 interview withGlamour. “We don’t see each other very often,” Fey, who leftSNLin 2006, quipped at the time.
“That’s right,” Poehler chimed in, laughing. “It’s like a good marriage. My mom always says it’s very important to have people in your life who knew you when. The older you get, the more you treasure that idea of someone knowing your family and where you came from, and being around during these times and these times.”
Poehler said that as neither of the stars have sisters, they’ve instead “rented them.”
“We found sisters,” Fey clarified.
