Wickedbegan playing preview performances on Oct. 8, 2003, before opening night just over three weeks later, on Oct. 30, 2003.

Having begun in a pre-Broadway San Francisco tryout, the show has gone on to tour many times and open on London’s West End, and is still playing on Broadway two decades later.

Speaking withVultureabout opening night for a recent anniversary story alongside Menzel, Chenoweth admitted she doesn’t remember exactly how that show went, as she was “so nervous and excited.”

“I remember the party. I don’t know how you felt, Idina, but I just needed the opening-night thing to happen,” she told her former costar.

“I like an opening night a lot because the critics have gone already, so opening night is friends and family. I tend to have more fun,” said Menzel. “Unfortunately, I think I always give a better performance then than the night when the reviewers are there, but whatever.”
