The US House of Representatives slide by an amendment to the Defense Appropriations bill designed to hack funding for NSA backdoor . The amendmentpassed overwhelminglywith strong bipartisan supporting : 293 ayes , 123 nays , and 1 present .
Currently , the NSA collects e-mail , browsing and chat story underSection 702 of the FISA Amendments Act , and research this entropy without a guarantee for the communication of Americans — a practice have sex as “ backdoor searches . ” The amendment would block the NSA from using any of its financing from this Defense Appropriations Bill to conduct such warrantless searches . The House voted overpoweringly to cut funding for two of the NSA ’s encroaching surveillance practices : the warrantless searching of Americans ’ external communications , and the recitation of ask companies to install vulnerabilities in communication products or services . We applaud the House for direct this important first step , and we look forward to other elect officials standing up for our right to privacy .
