Google CEO Sundar Pichai is not happy about what ’s been going on with the company ’s Gemini AI chatbot , calling viral and historically inaccurate errors from its image source “ unaccepted ” in an interior memoranda to employee on Tuesday .
“ I desire to address the recent result with problematic text and image response in the Gemini app ( formerly Bard ) , ” Pichai articulate in the memo , which was first report bySemaforand later confirmed byThe Verge . “ I know that some of its responses have offended our users and show preconception — to be clear , that ’s whole unacceptable and we draw it unseasonable . ”
Pichai explained that teams at Google were “ working around the clock ” to treat the issue in Gemini and had “ see strong advance on a wide range of prompts . ” Gemini ’s image generator caused an online firestorm last week after the AI chatbot createdhistorically inaccurate images of Black Vikingsand refused to generate images of white people .

Google quickly paused Gemini ’s ability to create images of people last Thursday in light of the outrage , with Google vice Chief Executive Prabhakar Raghavan justify for the mishap on Friday .
“ This was n’t what we intend . We did not want Gemini to refuse to create images of any special mathematical group . And we did not want it to create inaccurate historical — or any other — images , ” Raghavan said in ablog post .
The company direct to relaunch Gemini ’s image generatorover the next few hebdomad .

While Raghavan ’s affirmation was mean for the public , Pichai ’s memo was addressed to employees , some of whom may have been taken aback by Gemini ’s yield . One person whoclaims to go at Google ’s AR & VR unitin San Francisco said they had “ never been so mortified to process for a fellowship ” when Gemini ’s historically inaccurate images of a gothic British king went viral . Gizmodo has not been able-bodied to severally corroborate whether this person works at Google .

In his memo , Pichai say the company would make geomorphologic changes to control the spot with Gemini did n’t repeat itself . He also stressed that it was important for Google to give users “ helpful , accurate , and unbiased ” data about all its product , including its emerging AI product .
“ No AI is complete , peculiarly at this come forth degree of the industry ’s growing , but we know the bar is high for us and we will keep at it for however long it takes . And we ’ll review what happened and make certain we fix it at scale , ” Pichai suppose .
