You might have thought ABC ’s V remaking pass on us the most tall mallow - tastic take on the “ vicious alien queen ” image — but you have n’t seen Daryl Hannah in The Last daylight of Planet Earth . Her performance is one of our best-loved things ever .
If you missed it , Last Clarence Day is a 2006 miniseries that aired on the Hallmark Channel , even though it was made by the production company behind many of Syfy ’s miniseries and TV movies . Hannah plays Liz Quinlan , a former cosmonaut who is secretly the queen of the foreign insect people , who ’s planning to lay a ton of eggs and use humans as a food for thought source , and as “ jackets ” to grow her egg in .
The whole thing is best summed up by one scene where a character recount an old lady who ’s find some crazy shit , “ Just judge and forget what you ’ve see here . ” He might as well be speaking to the consultation .
But Hannah is wild . She really milks transmission line like , “ Does this titillate you ? ” Or , “ The word ‘ promise ’ does not meet me with much hope . In fact , it does the opponent . ” Or her absolutely fantastic talking to that goes :
What would we do without this nourishment which we have come so far to cultivate and without which we would snuff it ? ( I think she just answered her own question . ) Which is why I am finished accepting failure . bankruptcy is defeat . Now , in other words , failure is human .
She really ask the “ sinister ubervillain who is wall by incompetency ” figure to the next level , and then some . What you ca n’t really see in these clip is that it sort of sneaks up on you — at first , Hannah ’s eccentric seems kind of seraphic and well-disposed , and she ’s a potential love sake to our hero , while being brow - overreach by Police Commissioner Korshaft . But then it turns out she ’s actually the leader of the aliens , and Korshaft is one of her minions .
Oh , and the fashion they ’re gather up enough humans to put all of their alien eggs into is , they ’re using the DMV as a ingathering centre , and basically kidnapping all the people who come in to renew their licenses . ( Seems plausible enough . ) And the foreigner ’ vicious scheme for increasing their yield is … a parking ticket pardon ! I love that she execute the Police Commissioner when he does n’t seem excited enough about forgiving people ’s volunteer parking tag . Rock on , Daryl Hannah .
