Well , if last week ’s Chuck clearly tag the disconsolate direction for the residual of the season , last night ’s episode apparently did n’t get the memorandum . Paranoia subplot : Over after going nowhere ! Chuck selfloathing : Over after run nowhere ! spoiler and WTFs in the lead .
On the positive side , last night ’s " Chuck Vs . The Mask " was altogether missing Jeff and Lester , and may have finally convinced me that Hannah is n’t yet another undercover undercover agent wait to pounce when the moment is right . On the negative side , there was everything else in the installment . Okay , that ’s not entirely fair ; take on its own merits , it was o.k. – There were deathtraps ( Two , in fact , although one of them bend out to be weirdly non - deathtrappy ( " Oh , the computer has sealed off all of that airborne virus . Guess I ’ll just inject my way out of here " ? ) and the idea that Chuck may have had to prefer between saving Sarah or Hannah was never really an option , surprisingly ) and very familiar badguys and fights and all , after all – but it all seemed to have hail from a simpler , less interesting , time : To see a chipper Chuck after the conclusion of last hebdomad ’s sequence seemed like a reset , but maybe it was just an omen for the route the episode keep taking . I mean , Morgan and Ellie discovering Chuck with Hannah and deciding that this whole hidden affair was because of a privy relationship ( Was n’t Awesome performing weirdbeforeHannah showed up ? And how would a secret relationship excuse all Chuck ’s disappearances for the last two years ? ) ? Hannah forgive Chuck for abandoning her the nighttime before ? Shaw ’s sudden ( and successful ) seduction of SarahandChuck ’s quick acceptance of it ? Almost everything seemed path too easy and unsatisfying , as if the writers necessitate to get the characters to a certain berth and did n’t mind speeding up too much to do it .
( Also , I have to wonder why the show take in that pointing out weaknesses in Chuck ’s cover just makes the CIA expect incompetent . If Chuck ’s cover for all these charge is supposed to be that he ’s on Nerd Herd outcalls , why does n’t someone from the CIA just call the BuyMore and request Chuck for some bastard line of work , thereby give him an alibi ? )
I ’ve get no problem with all the liquid ecstasy opera house in Chuck ; the show has always been a weird cross of soap / comedy / spystuff . It ’s just that episodes like last nighttime ’s make me wish that it was good soap opera house . But what did the rest of you think ?
