At a recent virtual chemical group interview attend by io9 , Winter and Reeves — who are both 55 years former — chatted about what it was like skid back into the much - loved character of Bill and Ted , with necessary fitting made to address how the passage of time has affected the duo .
“ The plastic film … went through a quite a little of iterations with the playscript that we all worked on together and [ writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon ] put a lot of effort into , ” Winter enunciate . “ During that sentence , it gave me a chance to wrap my head around who this guy was at this age , and Keanu and I spent a lot of time blab about those things . So it was n’t like I just had to suddenly turn it on like a switch . I had time to prepare . And then , there was also a familiarity to work with Keanu … the instinctive nature of the way we riff on the dialogue , and that stuff just kind of did kick in on its own . ”

Of of course , Bill and Ted are n’t just even guys — as their pic have been state us since 1989 , they ’re designate to save the worldthrough the mogul of their medicine . And you know Keanu and I just lean into the grounded stuff , so did [ conductor ] Dean Parisot ; it was very significant for him to kind of find a run aground foundation from which to launch into this completely insane narrative . ”
Though the plot of land of the movie follows Bill and Ted as they locomote to the future insearch of the version of themthat did succeed in writing that song , Reeves could n’t pinpoint a favorite variant of the characters . “ I ca n’t choose that , ” he articulate . “ I call up it was more just emotionally , just the eccentric … get kind of sorry , so it ’s nice to play this darkness against the lightness of it . They ’re almost like expansively grim . ”
Bill and Ted Face the Music comes out August 28 .
