There were shocks and surprises in this year’sOscarnominations.

Thenominees for the 96th annual Academy Awardswere revealed Tuesday morning, withOppenheimerleading the pack, earning 13 total nominations.Poor Thingsfollowed with 11, whileKillers of the Flower Moongot 10.

Among those nominated in the acting categories, 10 stars earned theirfirst-ever nominations: Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer), Danielle Brooks (The Color Purple), Sterling K. Brown (American Fiction), Colman Domingo (Rustin), America Ferrera (Barbie), Lily Gladstone (Killers of the Flower Moon), Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall), Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer), Da’Vine Joy Randolph (The Holdovers) and Jeffrey Wright (American Fiction).

There were some notable absences, though.Leonardo DiCapriowas excluded from the Best Actor category. InKillers of the Flower Moon, the actor, 49, played Ernest Burkhart oppositeLily Gladstone, who earned a Best Actress nomination. Costar Robert De Niro was recognized in the Best Supporting Actor category for the film as well.

Leonardo DiCaprio, FANTASIA BARRINO, Rosamund Pike

The Color Purpleonly landed one nomination: for supporting actressDanielle Brooks. That meant snubs for the movie-musical in Best Picture, as well as for cast membersFantasia BarrinoandTaraji P. Henson.

WhileBarbiescored a number of top nods, including Best Picture,Greta Gerwig was left out of the Best Directorcategory, though she landed a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination. Additionally, Margot Robbie didn’t earn a nomination for her titular role. (The star, 33, however, is recognized as a producer in the Best Picture lineup.)

Emerald Fennell’sSaltburn,Ben Affleck’sAir,Andrew Haigh’sAll of Us Strangers,Sofia Coppola’sPriscillaandAva DuVernay’sOrigineach received zero nominations.WonkaandThe Iron Clawwere also shut out altogether.

Asteroid Cityalso landed zero nods, though its director Wes Anderson was recognized in Best Live-Action Short for hisThe Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.

Ferrari’sPenelope Cruzwas left out of the Best Supporting Actress category, as wasMay December’s Julianne Moore in a Mary Kay Letourneau–inspired role. Her costars Natalie Portmanand Charles Melton were also left out of the acting categoriesdespite several precursor nominations leading up to the Oscars.

Willem Dafoedidn’t make it in for his supporting role inPoor Things, though his costarMark Ruffaloslid into the category, and the film earned many more nods.

The dramaPast Livesscored nods for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay, but star Greta Lee didn’t get a spot in the Best Actress pool. Also, the coming-of-age Judy Blume comedyAre You There God? It’s Me, Margaretdidn’t register in the Best Adapted Screenplay category or translate to a Best Supporting Actress nod for Rachel McAdams.

Among documentaries,American SymphonyandStill: A Michael J. Fox Moviewere shut out of the category, thoughAmerican Symphonymade it to the Best Original Song field.
