By the hoary host of hoggoth , it ’s the Sorcerer Supreme ! We ’ve had set pictures , and comb-out glance throughconcept fine art , but this is it : our first official look at how Benedict Cumberbatch will seem as the master of all things secret in the Marvel cosmos . That beard . That cloak . That conjuring trick ! Oh my .
Entertainment Weeklyhas put our first face at Strange in action at law on the front of its January cover , promising a full set report on the film when it collide with stands on January 8th . Check it out below :
Maybe it should n’t be surprising at this point , but I am authentically shocked at how close this adheres to Strange ’s classic costume from the comics — it ’s all there , the colour schema , the cloak , the eye of Agamotto dangling from his neck opening , It ’s all there — right down to Strange ’s greying hair . It really has jump off off the page of a Doctor Strange comic into real life , and it look heavy .
And the magic ! In a abbreviated quote fromthe study , Cumberbatch discusses doing all the unfounded gesticulations that defines Strange ’s enchantment - slinging in the comic strip , so even that ’s vocalise close too :
I ’m still in the infancy of learning all that . It was like , okay , I ’ve cause to keep throwing these poses , these spells , these rune - wander thing , everything he does physically . I ’m thinking , there ’s going to be a huge amount of meditation and intrigue over the positioning of that fingerbreadth as opposed to it being there , or there . And I ’m still working on that . We have n’t roleplay any of those scenes yet . I felt really self - conscious . But , then , by the end , it was nifty . It ’s like anything , you just have to experiment .

update : Entertainment Weeklyhas also confirmed that Mads Mikkelsen ( Hannibal ) will be launch the main baddie of the moving picture . Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige enunciate that he ’ll be a “ thaumaturge who breaks off into his own religious order ” who “ consider that the Ancient One is just protect her own office stand and that the world may be better off if we were to countenance some of these other things through . ” The name of the character is still under wraps , with executive manufacturer Stephen Broussard saying that no one has quite judge his character yet .
