The USC School of Cinematic Arts and Intel call their 3 - D flight model of the whale airship from Scott Westerfeld ’s YA novel Leviathan “ extreme fan - fiction . ” But mostly , we call it pretty incredible . See the result for yourself .
According toa post on Westerfeld ’s blog :
For the last dyad of years , the USC School of Cinematic Arts World Building Media Lab has been function on a project base on myLeviathanseries , in partnership with Intel … .

What the research lab is doing is a combination of gamey engineering and storytelling , or what some of them call “ uttermost Leviathanfan fable . ” They ’ve created a 3 - calciferol virtual model of the airship , both inside and out , backstories for all the gang members , and a emcee of adjuvant material , like diary and diachronic timeline ( more detailed than any in the novel ) .
They ’ve created some somewhat beautiful Leviathan prints , which you could see atWesterfeld ’s internet site . And they ’ve created the declamatory - scale interlingual rendition you could see in the video above , which is 3 - D and allows people to interact with the “ story - clobber ” using their tablets . But you could also take the air around the 3 - five hundred mannequin using a VR headset . So cool .
