A recent discovery at the top of a pyramid in El Salvador challenges the notion that pre - Columbian Salvadorans were isolated from more innovative civilizations .
A twosome of archaeologists has unearthed five 2,400 - year - old ceramic statuette at the top of the largest Pyramids of Egypt of the San Isidro archaeological site . As detailed in astudypublished today in the journalAntiquity , the artifact suggest that the pre - Columbian multitude of El Salvador were indeed plug in to other culture , challenging the belief that they were less highly-developed than their neighbor .
At the top of the pyramidic structure , University of Warsaw ’s Jan Szymański and Gabriela Prejs unearthed what may have been a funerary deposit . Instead of human remains , however , they found five ceramic figurines , three of which have vocalise heads akin to modern dolls .
