When the robot revolution come , it will be … absolve ? Or so the second episode of Humans posits , given that most of the endure people on the show seem determined not just to treat Synths like simple machine , but to treat them with full and arrant scorn .
In fact , I ’d say every plot line in last nighttime ’s episode features a human either inwardly hum at Synths or being genuinely cruel to one — storylines , by the way , that were again almost wholly disconnected to each other ( I ’m fairly surefooted we should consider Humans as one narrative tell in eight chapters as opposed to eight individual episode ; this is probably a show better binge - watched than seen one instalment per week ) . So forgive me for separate them yet again :
1 ) Hobb

Let ’s start with the obvious ; Hobb , the old man who ’s endeavor to hunt down the witting Synths . He hates the Synths because he thinks they ’re going to defeat all humans . However , other than have his research lab assistants uncover part of a remembering from the enchant Synth Fred — a memory of him swim after Anita / Mia — he does n’t really do anything this episode .
2 ) Drummond
The Special Technology Task Force tec is seen help his paralyzed wife go to the bathroom , a line their Synth Simon could do easy — in fact one his wife would prefer the Synth do , because the golem is n’t out - of - build , so well shopworn , and it ’s plausibly overnice not having to vex about what Simon is think or feeling during the operation . Drummond resents that his married woman prefer the help of the golem , and that the golem can help his wife well than he can . He also hates that it ’s well - looking .

2 ) Millican
When Millican order the Health Department that he ’s recycle Odi ( as opposed to simply say the malfunctioning Synth to hide out in the shed ) he ’s issued Vera , the stark , matronly Synth we saw last week . Millican hates Vera for … well , everything , basically , but mainly because Vera is programmed to take care of him no matter what the hell he wants , whether making him low-down - sodium bean plant broth for dinner party or physically thrust him to get along back inside on a later - nighttime sojourn to mark on Odi . Although it ’s punch-drunk for Millican to hate Vera — she ’s only perform her programming as dictated by the Health Department — Millican hates Vera so much . He even tries to rename her Tugboat , a name she does n’t accept as it ’s not on the Health Department ’s okay listing of name . He also hat her for the use to which she ’s being out because , in a twirl that surely everyone bed was fall , Millican was one of the scientist who first created Synths back in the day .
3 ) Niska

Niska , of course , is the thinking , feel Synth who is trapped in a Synth Whore House and is not happy about it . When she get an older customer who seems like a harmless , flighty old man looking for a guilt - free shag but quick bring out he ’s looking of a pedophilic assault fantasy , Niska decides it ’s time to go . She kills the old guy wire , habituate his remaining body heat to trigger the door to her prison house / boudoir , and gets the hell out . In keeping with my thesis , I can tell you the cat was very angry when Niska refused his desire scenario in the abbreviated time before he had his pharynx crushed .
4 ) Joe and Max
The duad obviously do n’t hate Synths , but travel to a known illegal trafficker of boosted Synths , hoping to track down Mia / Anita . There , they learn the marketer erased Mia ’s memory before reselling her . The information gathering bend ugly , and the seller and his crony plain the perdition out of Joe , storm Max to reveal his singularity by attacking them . They barely get out from the criminals , who not only do some seriously unsavoury thing to Synths in their piddling workshop , but are also intelligibly happy to gravel a Synth up … even if they did n’t recognize , because , in another twist that was n’t that shocking , Joe is a Synth as well . He might be an old role model , as his parentage is red , while other Synth blood seems to be undimmed blood , but at any rate Max is able to rejigger a light mending to recharge his wound supporter ( by the way , the sequence ’s only connection between plotlines appears when Drummond later on arrest the same Synth seller ) .

5 ) Anita / Mia and the Hawkins Family
Of of course , the master plot line is of the Hawkins and no one is more exhaustive at hating Synths than Laura . She basically spends the entire episode peer suspiciously at Anita , who , to be fair , gives her plenty of reasons . First Laura notices Sophie changed pyjama ( after her strange midnight pleasure trip with Anita ) , then Anita surprise her with a wanderer ( Laura hates spiders , which Anita did n’t know … peradventure ? ) , Anita lies about taking Sophie outside ( even though she says she ca n’t lie down because of her programming ) , and spends a netherworld of a lot of time giving Laura creepy stares herself .
The rest of the class also have a bit more involved with their new Synth . The elder daughter Mattie is apparently a bud whiz hacker who test to chop a Synth at school , although it recognizes an unauthorised plan is being uploaded . Although the school calls Laura , Laura hates Synths so much she in reality takes her girl buy at as a reward for prove to mess up with one . I doubt she ’d be as proud of to learn that her son Toby tried to cop a quick feel on Anita while she was in DOE delivery mode , but she bust him before he could manage it ( which also meant that she did n’t have to cover the incident to his parent , in what seems to be Anita endeavor to keep a dense horny tike from getting in major trouble as play off to a lucky break in her system of logic ) .

And the youngest daughter , Sophie , has a nightmare and demand cuddle , which she does by endearingly squall “ CUDDLE ” until Anita give her a hug . This is meaning for two reasons : the first is that Anita was directly tell not to partake Sophie without authority , meaning Anita can do anything she want ; and more importantly , Laura catches her hugging Sophie and freaks out . The episode ends with Laura fix to get disembarrass of her Synth that very instant , place her into the railway car .
I intend we can safely say that Anita wo n’t be going anywhere — I doubt the show rent Katharine Parkinson just to play a woman who is mildly freak out by a automaton for two episodes and then disappears without succeeding outcome — but I ’m eager to see how and why she stays . Actually , everything in the “ next week on ” prevue expect jolly captivating , and it seemed a lot more action - throng and dramatic than these first two episode have been . Oh , Humans has n’t been sorry so far , but I eagerly expect when the real conflict is revealed and these plot line go tying together for real .
Or , fail that , maybe Niska can just go on a one - Synth execution spree and kill every robot - hate human in the city . I ’d also be down for that .

Assorted Musings :
• I ’m kind of baffled about Joe . How does recharging his battery assistant him heal from his wounds ? Did the criminals literally beat the energy out of him ? That seems … unconvincing .
• I ’m also confused about why the Synth Whore House has a char hosepipe Synths down to “ disinfect ” them . I intend , I know they need to be clean house after use , and I know the symbolism of showing prisoner being hosed down . But could n’t the Synths be ordered to just take a shower ? Would n’t that be easy and more effective ? Or , if somehow the hose thing is the best way to do this , why have a last person do the hosing ? Should n’t they just overlook the Synths to hose down themselves off ?

• chance of me accidentally call in Laura Jen in these recap : 88 % . Chances of me quickly giving up and just called her Jen from The IT Crowd anyways : 64 % .
