The engine was based on a powerplant from the company ’s Venture touring bike but with legion modifications . Among the tweak was a variable intake organisation that open an extra solidification of butterflies as rev increase , allowing great low - endtorquealong with 145 peakhorsepower .

Oddly , final ride was by shaft , which undoubtedly absorb more ability than would a chain , but the 1985 Yamaha V - Max motorcycle did n’t seem to take care .

Fast the V - Max was ; subtle it was n’t . What looked like a sliver of a fuel armored combat vehicle was really just a screen for the electronics , as the tankful itself was under the seat . Brobdingnagian aluminum scoops beneath the cooler see like ram - air duct , but actually hid the horns .

A lonespeedometersat atop the handlebars , with a tachometer , water temperature gauge , and warning lights situated in a " tank"-mounted instrument control panel .

A stepped bicycle seat helped keep the rider in spot during accelerator program , and a duck’s egg - tail end rear fender was there to … well … just look racy .

Though discontinue after a duet of years , the V - Max made a riposte in the late eighties . But it would be some time before any motorcycle managed to top its square - seam operation .
